Additional Tasks of the Group Therapist




 

The role of the group therapist is not limited to simply leading the session. It extends to building the theoretical and organizational framework of the group, managing the social dynamics among members, providing individual and group support, and monitoring and evaluating results. These tasks integrate to form a rich therapeutic environment that helps members achieve psychological and social growth and overcome the difficulties they face in their daily lives.


In addition to the basic tasks mentioned above, there are many detailed aspects and tasks that the group therapist performs to ensure the effectiveness of the therapy and the achievement of the group's therapeutic goals.


Some additional roles related to the tasks of the group therapist:

1- Defining the general goals of therapy: The therapist sets clear therapeutic goals for the group, such as improving communication skills, strengthening social support, or addressing specific behavioral patterns.

2- Creating a timeline and structure for the sessions:

This includes determining the number of sessions, the duration of each session, and the main topics to be discussed during the therapy process.

3- Building trust and therapeutic relationships within the group:

The therapist works to create an environment where each member feels safe to participate freely, ensuring that no single person dominates the conversation.  And distributing the opportunity for expression fairly.


Activating ethical principles:


Clarifying the rules of confidentiality and mutual respect among group members to ensure the session is a supportive and safe space.
