Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro told a large rally in Caracas that he rejects what he called a "slave peace," explaining that the US military deployment in the Caribbean has been putting Venezuela under constant pressure for 22 weeks.
He said his country wants a peace based on sovereignty, freedom, and equality, not a peace based on submission or domination, coinciding with US President Donald Trump's preparations to hold a meeting with the National Security Council to discuss developments in Venezuela.
The United States indicates that its military operations in the region target drug cartels, having deployed a massive naval force since last August, including the world's largest aircraft carrier. Maduro added that the Venezuelan people have faced 22 weeks of what he described as psychological terrorism, during which they have demonstrated their patriotism and resilience in the face of threats.
